Obituary

Methuen, MA- Mr. James L. Hyland, 50, formerly of Thomaston, died Thursday, January 12, at the Waterbury Hospital with his family by his side. James was born April 11, 1961 in Waterbury son of Evelyn (Mitchell) Hyland of Thomaston and the late John M. Hyland. Raised in Thomaston he attended local schools and was a graduate of Thomaston High School class of 1979 where he played varsity basketball and soccer. He had been an active member of the St. Peters Drum Corps in Torrington and had attended Central Connecticut State University. Following his time at Central he enlisted in the United States Army and served honorably as a military police officer in Germany. For the past 12 years he had been employed at Charter Management in Boston as a claims manager in the workers compensation insurance industry. In addition to his mother he is survived by his son, Eric Hyland of Cheshire; four brothers, William Hyland and Diana of Milford, John Hyland and his wife Donna of Waterbury, Robert Hyland and his wife Lisa of Naugatuck and David Hyland and his wife Lorry of Bristol; one sister, Nancy Galpin and her husband Robert of Thomaston and many nieces and nephews. Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 15, at 4:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 P.M. until time of service. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in Jamess name to the Massachusetts General Hospital Research Fund for Melanoma C/O Development Office 165 Cambridge Street Suite 600 Boston, MA 02114. Checks should be made payable to Massachusetts General Hospital.
