Thomaston- Mr. James "Peanuts" Wilson, 86, died Monday morning, April 25, at the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was the husband of Lois (Atkinson) (Goldsmith) Wilson and the late Doris (Nelson) Wilson.
Mr. Wilson was born September 9, 1924 in Waterbury son of the late John and Elizabeth (Lawson) Wilson. A lifelong resident of Thomaston he had attended local schools and was a graduate of Thomaston High School. He had been employed at Seth Thomas Clock and Talley Industries and served honorably in the United States Coast Guard from 1942 until his discharge in 1946 as a Yeoman Third Class. Active in the community he served as a Fire Commissioner for 34 years and was a member of the Thomaston Volunteer Fire Department, Crescent Hose Company for 65 years. He was also a member of the American Legion Clifford French Post 22, the Thomaston Fish and Game Club, the Northfield Rod and Gun Club, the Stag Club and was honored in 2001 as the Thomaston Citizen of the Year by the Thomaston Rotary Club.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three daughters, Judy Baldwin and her husband Todd of Torrington, Doreen Gibbons and her husband Greg of Thomaston and Carol Beth Lizotte and her husband Joe of Plymouth; one step-son, Glen Goldsmith of Middletown; one sister, Betty Nedorostek of Thomaston; six grandchildren, Ailee Drown, Oliver Goldsmith, Lauren Foley, Joleen Lizotte, Joshua Baldwin and Joseph Lizotte; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, John, George and Albert.
Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 28, at 11:00 A.M. at the First Congregational Church of Thomaston. Burial with full military honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Thomaston. Calling hours are Wednesday, April 27, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston.
