Thomaston Mr. John B. "Captain" Orsatti, Jr., 83, passed away at his home suddenly on Wednesday, July 10, with his wife of 62 years, Rosetta (DiMella) Orsatti, by his side. John was born in Waterbury on December 4, 1935, son of the late John B. and Philomena (Caccavallo) Orsatti, Sr. He attended local schools. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956, spending most of his time in Germany playing trumpet in the Army Concert Band. John loved music and played many instruments. He began playing once again when his family was grown. He played in several community bands and had his own 17 piece swing band for several years. Upon his return from the service he married Rosetta (DiMella), the love of his life on November 22, 1956, and together they raised their children and operated several businesses, Orsattis Market in Naugatuck, employed by Bill Conda Pontiac in Waterbury, Orsattis Coffee Shop in Waterbury, Orsattis Food Truck and Catering in Waterbury and retired from Garys Auto Parts Store in Waterbury. John and Rosetta spent many retirement winters in Florida, making many dear friends. They have lived in Thomaston for the past 18 years. In addition to his wife of 62 years, John is survived by his children, Judy Olsen and her husband Chris, Joseph Orsatti and his wife Donna, Joann Orsatti and her partner Lori, Jeanne Conway and her husband Thomas and Janet Duffany and her husband Larry; grandchildren Daniel, Jacquelyn, Melanie, Justin, Giulia, Mia, Alyson, Karley, Morgan, Hannah and Gabriel; five great-grandsons and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Theresa, Anita, Ester, Gus, Danny, Romeo and Hubbie. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 14, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. in Thomaston. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday at 11:30 A.M. at St. Thomas Church (St. Maximillian Kolbe Parish) in Thomaston. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Waterbury.
