Thomaston- Mr. Joseph Francis Bartosiewicz, Sr., 82, died peacefully Thursday, January 20, at Bristol Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Gloria M. (Pandolfi) Bartosiewicz.
Mr. Bartosiewicz was born February 29, 1928 in Thomaston son of the late Andrew and Catherine (Brozowski) Bartosiewicz. He had been employed at Plume and Atwood, retiring in 1993, and had never missed a day of work in his 46 years of employment. A decorated veteran of the Korean War, he had served with the 555th Battalion of the United States Army. His awards and decorations include the Korean Service Medal with two bronze service stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the Bronze Star Award which he received for meritorious achievements in ground operations against the enemy.
For the last 19 years Joe has been employed by the Lyons Funeral Home as a funeral assistant, his smile and warmth has helped countless families in grief over the years and he will be greatly missed. He enjoyed spending his free time golfing with his friends and spending time with his family and grandchildren, most especially the time spent with his wife of 55 years, Gloria.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons, Joseph F. Bartosiewicz, Jr and his wife Marian of Avon, David V. Bartosiewicz and his wife Janet of Salt Lake City, UT and Robert J. Bartosiewicz and his wife Kimberley of Rochester, NY; one daughter, Lori C. Stevens of Northfield; two sisters, Martha Nadeau and Stasia Cocca both of Thomaston; twelve grandchildren, Amanda B. Hansen, Brittany and Carly Bartosiewicz, Devyn Bartosiewicz, Robert Bartosiewicz, Jr, Blair Bartosiewicz, Alexa Bartosiewicz, Brenna Bartosiewicz, Michael D. Stevens, Jonathan Joseph Stevens, Kaylee Hastings and Devin Kelley; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Gloria Hansen and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Edward and John Bartosiewicz.
Arrangements: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, January 24, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church, followed by military honors. Burial will be in the spring in the Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston.
