Obituary

Northfield - Mr. Joseph L. Dobos, Jr, 89, passed away on Tuesday, September 22, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was the husband of Myrtle (Goodwin) Dobos. Mr. Dobos was born September 8, 1926 on Newton Rd. in Northfield where he resided his entire life. He was the son of the late Joseph, Sr. and Mary (Bodnar) Dobos. He had been employed at Lyons Pontiac in Thomaston from the mid 1950s through the mid 1970s and was also the former owner operator of Dobos Power Equipment in Thomaston for twenty five years. He had served the Northfield Volunteer Fire Department for thirty years and was Chief of the Fire Department for ten years. He will be remembered for his love of antique cars, restoring a 1930 Model A Roadster and a 1928 Ford. He enjoyed Polish dancing and music and on many weekends you would find him on the dance floor. He was always known to have a joke or story and enjoyed being around people. In addition to his wife of 68 years he is survived by his son, Vincent Dobos and his wife Diane of Vero Beach, FL., daughters, Sherry Dobos Carrigan and her husband Pat of Sebastian, FL and Sheila Dobos Pond and her husband John Brown of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; three grandchildren Jeff Dobos and his wife Melanie, Greg Dobos and his wife Elizabeth and Gillian Kapros and her husband Savvas; seven great grandchildren, Everett, Simon, Mannie, Spenser, Owen, Evangeline and Benedict and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements: A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 25, at 11:00 A.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High St. in Thomaston. Friends may call from 9:30 A.M. until time of service. Burial will follow in Northfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Joes name to the Northfield Volunteer Fire Dept. 12 Knife Shop rd. Northfield, CT 06778 or to Fidelco Guide Dogs, 103 Vision Way Bloomfield, CT 06002.
