Thomaston - Mr. Joseph E. LaMay, Jr., 86, passed away on Sunday evening, June 12, at the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was the husband of the late Joan (Ryan) LaMay.
Mr. LaMay was born May 1, 1930 in Forestville; son of late Joseph E. and Mabel (Martin) LaMay, Sr. He had served honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Mr. LaMay was a member of the Teamsters Local 677 in Waterbury and had a 44 year career in the trucking industry, starting with the Lombard Trucking Co. for 38 years and 6 years with North Penn until his retirement. He will be remembered as an avid Red Sox fan, but most of all for the joy he found in spending time with his family and grandchildren and their vacations to the Outer Banks in North Carolina.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph E. LaMay, III and his wife Leah of Thomaston and Kevin LaMay and his wife Sharon of Washington; one daughter, Kathleen A. Bellemare and her husband Richard of Thomaston; two sisters, Betty Stanulis of Terryville and Nancy McMillan of Worcester, MA; eight grandchildren, Scott Bellemare and his wife Brie, Trevor Bellemare, Derek LaMay, Alysia LaMay, Dylan LaMay, Ryan LaMay, Kyle LaMay and Trey LaMay and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three sisters.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 15, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. in Thomaston. A funeral service will be held on Thursday morning at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
