Obituary

Thomaston - Mr. Kenneth E. Rein, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, August 25, 2016, at his home. He was the husband of Margaret (Delameter) Rein. Mr. Rein was born on July 29, 1922 in the Fluteville section of Thomaston, son of the late Peter H. and Hilda (Anderson) Rein. A lifelong resident of Thomaston, he attended local schools and was a graduate of Thomaston High School. He served honorably in the U.S Navy during WWII, joining the day after Pearl Harbor. In the Navy, he was a machinist mate Second Class serving on the USS Randolph, where he was injured following a Japanese attack on his ship. He was awarded The Purple Heart for his service. He started his tool and die career as an apprentice at Seth Thomas in Thomaston. He additionally was employed at Ingrahams in Bristol, Thomaston Special Products, and retired from Timex in Middlebury in 1985. He was a communicant of St. Peters Trinity Church and was a life time member of the American Legion Clifford French Post 22 in Thomaston, a life time member of the DAV, and a member of the VFW. He will be remembered for his love of gardening. In addition to his wife Margaret of 70 years, he is survived by one son, Kenneth P. Rein and his wife Ann of Litchfield; one daughter, Cyndi L. Johnston and her husband Dean of Thomaston; four grandchildren: Kenneth E. Rein and Gregory B. Rein of Litchfield; Dean Johnston and his wife Krystin of Litchfield and David Johnston and his wife Ange of Harwinton; and, two great grandsons, Cory and Eric Johnston. He also leaves one sister, Carolyn Hearn of West Hartford and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements: Funeral services will be held at St. Peters-Trinity Church, Main Street, Thomaston on Tuesday, August 30, at 10:00 A.M. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Hillside Cemetery.
