Thomaston- Mr. Lester C. Duffy, Sr, 88, died on Monday, November 11, at the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was the husband of Olive J. (Smalley) Duffy.
Mr. Duffy was born March 28, 1925 in New Britain, son of the late Thomas J. and Rose (LaChance) Duffy. He had served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII as a heavy mortar crewman in Company A 91st Chemical Mortar Battalion, his awards and decorations included the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Victory Medal. In 1990 he retired from the Drawn Metal Tube Co. after 43 years of service to the company. He was a member of the American Legion Clifford French Post #22, had bowled in the Norm Carver Memorial Thomaston League and was a former member of the Thomaston Fish and Game Club.
In addition to his wife of 64 years he is survived by three sons, Terry Duffy and his wife Peg of Thomaston, Lester C. Duffy, Jr and his wife Tina of Morris and Kurt A. Duffy and his wife Rhonda of Thomaston; one daughter, Joan Lumbard-Knox and her husband Dan of Thomaston; one brother, Peter J. Duffy of Bristol; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Alan Duffy; three brothers, Philip F, Francis W. and Thomas J. Duffy and his sister, Alice R. Duffy.
Funeral services will be held on Friday evening, November 15, at 6:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. Burial will be private. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4:00 P.M. until time of service.
