Plymouth- Mr. Richard F. Brophy, 99, died Wednesday morning, February 27, at Valerie Manor in Torrington. He was the husband of the late Ruth (Perkins) Brophy.
Mr. Brophy was born March 2, 1913 in Waterbury, son of the late Henry and Clara (Verchot) Brophy. He had worked on his fathers farm, at the Western Auto Hardware Store and then for two different carpet installation companies. He went on to start his own installation business and installed carpeting until he was in his eighties.
He was a member of the Atlantic Council of the Knights of Columbus and was a long time member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He was a collector of many things, including clocks, post cards, thermometers and yardsticks. He enjoyed visiting antique shops and tag sales, always looking for a great find.
He is survived by his son, Robert Brophy of Plymouth and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Brophy and a sister, Lucy Mehmel.
The family sincerely thanks the staff at Valerie Manor for giving him such wonderful and compassionate care.
Arrangements: Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church in Thomaston. Family and friends may call at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. on Saturday morning. Burial will be in the spring.
