Thomaston Mr. Robert C. Foster, 85, passed away on Wednesday, September 25, at the Yale St. Raphael Hospital in New Haven.
Bob was born August 17, 1939, in Waterbury, son of the late Clarence F. and Ethel M. (Stecker) Foster. Raised in Waterbury, Bob attended local schools and was a graduate of Crosby High School. He retired from Handy and Harmon but continued to work for many years at Ansonia Copper and Brass, and then Prime Sales Auto Dealers in Thomaston. He served honorably and proudly in the United States Marine Corps.
He is survived by family he loved deeply; his son, Robert C. Foster II, and his wife Julie of Carrboro, NC; his two daughters, Kimberly M. Foster of Deland, FL and Melissa S. Dougherty and her husband Jeff of Madison; his two brothers, Frederick Foster of Thomaston and William Foster of Plainville; his two sisters, Carole Chase of SC and Lois Innes of Harwinton; five beloved grandchildren, Brittany Naccarato, Joshua Foster, and Rachel, Julia and Foster Dougherty along with many nieces and nephews.
Bob was a natural athlete and often talked of his swimming and track days at Crosby High School. He enjoyed his time as a ski patrolman and Little League coach for his sons team. His days drag racing left him with many stories to tell. In his later years he shared many laughs with his brothers while fishing and golfing. He loved challenging himself with crossword puzzles, which were always completed in pen. His knack for delivering delightfully bad jokes brought laughter to those around him, and his breakfast gatherings at Pattys with family and friends were the highlight of his day. He always mentioned his appreciation for those who helped him with a ride to breakfast. Bob will be missed by all who knew him.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 25, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Burial is private.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Veterans of Foreign War or the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) in his honor.
