Torrington - Mr. Robert V. Furs, 71, formerly of Thomaston, passed away on Sunday evening, January 1, at the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital with his family by his side. He was the husband of the late Beverly E. (Samoska) Furs. Robert was born December 23, 1945 in Naugatuck, son of the late Victor and Elizabeth M. (DiJohn) Furs. Raised in Naugatuck he attended local schools and was a graduate of Naugatuck High School, class of 1963. He had served honorably in the United States Navy and then went on to a 42 year career with Northeast Utilities. He will be remembered as an avid Giants and Yankees fan, but most of all he will be remembered for the joy he received spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by one son, Anthony Victor Furs of Torrington; one daughter, Michele Sovia and her husband Jason of Torrington; two grandchildren, Eric and Kaitlyn Sovia and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Friday, January 6, from 9:00 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. in Thomaston. A funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will be private.
