Plymouth- Mr. Robert Vernon Wilcox, 88, died Friday, February 22, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Lucille E. (Noel) Wilcox.
Mr. Wilcox was born January 5, 1925 in Waterbury, son of the late Robert V. and Hazel (Pronovost) Wilcox. Mr. Wilcox had served honorably in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, his awards and decorations included the Purple Heart for wounds he suffered in battle in the skies over Europe, the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Medal with two bronze stars and the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon.
For many years he had worked as a mechanic in Thomaston at Lyons Pontiac and then for the Fischer Service Center where he serviced the buses for the Town of Thomaston. He also served the town as a member of the Thomaston Hook and Ladder Co. 1 from December of 1964 until his retirement with the rank of Assistant Chief in 1978. Since his retirement from the fire department he has been an honorary member.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Nancy Wilcox and Deborah Champion both of New Haven; two step-daughters, Sandra Hart of Bristol and Deborah Rich of SC; one step-son, Wally Hart of Manchester; one grandson, Dylan Champion and Many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three brothers, John, Donald and William.
Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 26, at 12:00 PM at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and Tuesday morning from 11:00 A.M. until time of service. Burial with military honors will be in Hillside Cemetery in the spring.
