Thomaston - Mr. Thomas J. Lyons, 83, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday morning, April 23. He was the husband of Lois (Hearn) Lyons; they were childhood sweethearts and married almost 62 years.
Mr. Lyons was born November 7, 1931 in Waterbury, son of the late Thomas F. and Elizabeth (Eustace) Lyons. Raised in Thomaston he attended local schools and graduated from the Cheshire Academy. He was a fine athlete and played basketball, soccer and baseball in Thomaston and Cheshire. He received a full scholarship to the University of Connecticut where he also played basketball and soccer. He graduated in 1953. He had served honorably in the United States Army for two years. After 50 years in the brass and copper industry he retired from Plume and Atwood.
He was a very loyal UCONN fan for both the mens and womens teams. His favorite vacation spot was Ogunquit and his heart was always full of love for his family.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Marcee Miklinevich and her husband Bill of Thomaston, Carol Lyons of Bristol, Thomas Lyons and his wife Becky of Fairfield, Lee Lyons Galatro and her husband Vito of Naples, FL and Lynn Bengtson and her husband Kurt of Thomaston; his 7 grandchildren, Courtney, Shayne, Amanda, Nicole, Patrick, Robbie and Connor and two great-grandsons, Collin and James Thomas. He was predeceased by his daughter Susan.
Arrangements: A calling hour will be held on Tuesday, April 28, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. A mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will be private.
