Thomaston- Mr. Thomas F. Reynolds, Jr, 90, died Friday morning, August 17, at the Waterbury Hospital. He was the husband of Mary (Siebert) Reynolds.
Mr. Reynolds was born July 10, 1922 in Naugatuck, son of the late Thomas F. and Elizabeth (Schmitz) Reynolds, Jr. He was a graduate of Thomaston High School, received his BS degree from the State Teachers College in New Britain, his Masters degree from Fairfield University and his 6th year certificate from Southern Connecticut State College in New Haven. He taught industrial arts at Thomaston High School for 38 years.
Mr. Reynolds served honorably in the United States Navy during WWII, stationed in South Pacific for three years. While in the South Pacific his outfit was responsible for building patrol torpedo boats in the Philippines to being responsible for all types of small arms, including 20 mm antiaircraft artillery. They were constantly under attack by enemy snipers. Tom arrived home in Thomaston on January 6, 1946 at 10:00 P.M. surprising his parents and his brother Joe after being gone for 3 years. He was officially discharged on March 8, 1946 at Lido Beach, Long Island.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter and fan of the Boston Red Sox. He was a member of the Connecticut State Teachers Retirement Assoc., a 60 year charter member of the Thomaston Fish and Game Club, the NRA, the Housatonic Fly Fishermans Assoc. and Trout Unlimited. He had also served on the Thomaston Planning and Zoning Commission and was a communicant of St. Thomas Church.
In addition to his wife of 59 years he is survived by one son, Thomas E. Reynolds and his wife Mary of Penfield, NY; one brother, Joseph C. Reynolds of Torrington; two grandchildren, Allison F. Reynolds and Kevin T. Reynolds and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Reynolds Wagner.
Arrangements: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, August 21, at 10:00 A.M. at the St. Thomas Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston.
