Obituary

Thomaston- Mr. William Edward Rothe, 89, passed away at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital after a brief illness on July 29, 2010. He was the son of the Mabel Van Valen and William Rothe. He served in the United States Navy for 21 years, enlisting after the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941, serving through World War II, the Korean War and retiring in December of 1962. After retiring from the Navy he was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft, Southington plant from 1963, retiring in January 1986 to enjoy time at home in Thomaston with Frances, his wife for 62 years. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Thomaston and the Thomaston Senior Citizens. He is survived by his wife, Frances Axelby Rothe, children, Carol Pytel and her husband John of Thomaston and Gary Rothe and his wife Barbara of Springfield, New Hampshire; granddaughters, Kristin Johnson and her husband Patrick of Wolfeboro, NH, Heather Pytel of Thomaston and Lindsey Rothe of Springfield, NH. He was predeceased by his sister, Suzanne Trupia and by his granddaughter Caryn Pytel. Arrangements: A service celebrating his life will be held on Sunday, August 8, at 3:00 P.M. at the First Congregational Church of Thomaston, with a reception to follow in the Church Fellowship Hall. Burial is private. Arrangements are in the care of the Lyons Funeral Home of Thomaston.
