Thomaston - Mrs. M. Althea (Pfaefflin) Norton, 95, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2015 after a courageous and hard fought struggle to recover from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Althea was born on November 15, 1919 to the late Arthur and Idella (Phillips) Pfaefflin, and was married to the late Homer George Norton, who passed away in 1993. A graduate of Post Junior College, she was an executive with the Seth Thomas Clock Company before retiring after 41 years. Following her career at Seth Thomas, she worked for several years with the Thomaston Public Library. She delighted in greeting older friends using the library services, as well as making new friends, especially Thomastons littlest ones discovering lifes wonders through books, videos and special guests. Althea and Homer enjoyed travelling throughout their long marriage, making friends and business contacts around the world, as well as spending time with a close circle of friends at the beach in Madison, CT. However, they most enjoyed spending time with their son, Paul, daughter-in-law Julie - whom they considered their daughter, and grandson Keith. After her retirement, Althea remained active in several organizations including the Junior Womens Club in emeritus, the Eastern Star, the Garden Club, among many others, and was very involved in her much beloved church, the First Congregational Church of Thomaston, where she enjoyed the weekly Bible Study Group and worked tirelessly on Pastor Search Committees, the Church Aid, and countless fundraisers.
Besides her cherished Paul, Julie and Keith, she leaves a sister-in-law (and fellow Jumble duelist), Sally Pfaefflin, several nieces and nephews, and many very close friends. She was predeceased by her brother Tom and sister Helen. Althea was very proud of her family and friends, and made it a priority to make people feel very special. She would want this important priority to be her legacy.
Special thanks to the dedicated nurses and doctors of the Waterbury Hospital SICU, MICU and Hospice Units, and Pastor Will Hope for their tremendous care of our dearly loved treasure.
