Obituary

Watertown - Carol "Gay" DiMaria passed away on Thursday August 22, 2024 at the age of 95, in the comfort of her home surrounded with the love of her family. Gay was predeceased by her husband Pat in 1994. Gay was born in Stamford, CT on December 13, 1928 the daughter of Cal Brazee and Catherine Ashley Brazee. Gay was raised in Thomaston, CT graduating from Thomaston High School class of 1946 and Boston University class of 1948 with a secretarial degree. Gay was employed at Technicraft in Thomaston before her marriage to Pat DiMaria in 1950. Throughout her life Gay dedicated herself to creating a warm and loving home for her family. While raising four sons, she found simple pleasures in gardening, especially tending to her rose bushes and flowers. Gay loved reading, nature, music, animals and cooking homemade apple pies with apples picked from the trees in her yard. A natural athlete in her youth, she enjoyed most sports, skating and skiing in the winter. Playing basketball and tennis in High School. Gay enjoyed playing tennis until almost 80 years of age with her close friend Ann Long. Gay also enjoyed traveling to many Caribbean Islands and trips to Italy and Germany with her husband Pat and her in-laws Dick and Jeanne DiMaria. During the 1970s Gay spent her summers in Rhode Island entertaining Family and Friends at her beach cottage on Green Hill Pond. In her later years Gay enjoyed spending time with family at her condo in Madeira Beach, FL and visiting with her Brother Jack Brazee and his wife Ellie in Atlanta, GA. Although Gay loved the beach and traveling, she was happiest sharing her home and holidays with her extended family and her beloved dogs and cats. Gay will fondly be remembered by all for her kind, gentle, generous and welcoming spirit. Gay is survived by her four sons, Paul D. DiMaria and his partner Margaret Halloran of Winsted, Mark J. DiMaria and his partner Brenda Haase of Woodbury, Peter M. DiMaria and his wife Debra of FL and John J. DiMaria and his partner Ann Ciminera of CA; her brother, John A. Brazee and his wife Ellie of GA; two grandchildren, Daniel P. DiMaria and Keegan Halloran and six nieces and nephews, Stacy Cost, Louann Taylor, Stephen DiMaria, Michael DiMaria, Kathy DiMaria and Richard DiMaria, Jr. The family would like to give a special thanks to Gays caregivers Gillia Dixon, Sheridan King and Daisy Hinton. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, September 20, at 10:00 A.M. at St. John the Evangelist Church 574 Main St. in Watertown. Burial will be private. A celebration of life will be held following the Mass.
