Thomaston - Mrs. Carolyn (Richards) Sanford, 79, of Thomaston, passed away on Friday morning, June 28. She was the widow of Mr. Peter E. Sanford.
Carolyn was born on Sep. 22, 1933 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Emile and Carrie (Dickinson) Richards. Growing up in Thomaston, she graduated from Thomaston High School. She was employed at Technicraft in Thomaston from 1955 to 1960 and was a receptionist for Dr. Donald Fulton from 1987 until her retirement in 1996. Carolyn will be remembered for her caring nature, volunteering for the American Red Cross from 1980 to 1994, the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital as a cuddler for newborn babies from 1986 to 1994, and cleaned the First Congregational Church of Thomaston with her family for many years. She was a lifetime member of the First Congregational Church in Thomaston, a member of the Thomastons Womens Club from 1960 to 1970 and a member of the 200 Club at Thomaston Bowling Lanes. Carolyn loved to read, knit, cook, travel and take care of her family.
Carolyn is survived by her two daughters, Cynthia S. Lamontagne and her husband, Victor, of Harwinton, and Carrie Rogozinski and her husband, Douglas, of Plainville; two sisters, Marge Bellmay and her husband, Robert, of Morris, and June Pennell of Barkhamsted; three grandchildren, Brianne Bonk, Brandon and Chandler Rogozinski; one great-granddaughter, Bella Rose; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Hillside Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation in Carolyns name be made to the Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps, 247 S. Main St., Thomaston, CT 06787.
