Thomaston- Mrs. Cecelia (Dickinson) Callahan, 95, formerly of Plainville, died Friday evening, March 18, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Francis J. Callahan.
Mrs. Callahan was born October 12, 1915 in New Britain daughter of the late George and Anna Dickinson. Cecelia had worked as a telephone operator and then went to work for New Britain Machine, working as the switchboard operator until her retirement. She was a devout catholic and was an active member and longtime communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church in Plainville until her move to Thomaston; she was currently a communicant of St. Thomas Church.
She enjoyed bowling, square dancing, playing cards, knitting, cooking, was an avid Red Sox fan and socializing with her many friends. In her younger years she was an active volunteer and most especially enjoyed her time with the American Red Cross at New Britain General Hospital.
She is survived by one daughter, Kathleen F. Kalat of Thomaston, with whom she resided; four grandchildren, Michael Kalat, Susan Graham, Patricia Fusco and Mark Kalat; eight great-grandchildren, Aaron and Jacob Kalat, Emily Sullivan, Molly and Katherine Fusco, Elias, Evelyn and Enna Kalat and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, March 24, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church in Thomaston. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Plainville will be private. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in the care of the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston.
