Plymouth Mrs. Elizabeth "Betty" (Harrigan) Della Camera, passed away on Tuesday, September 26 at the age of 88. Betty was the widow of Charles J. Della Camera, her beloved husband of 58 years.
Betty was the daughter of the late Paul and Margaret (Kehoe) Harrigan. Betty leaves to mourn her passing, her son, Charles of Plymouth and daughters, Mary Della Camera and Anne Harrigan of Woodbury. Grandchildren include Meagan Scott and Rachael Scott; great-grandchildren are Natalie and Christine Klaneski and Mackenzie Parsons. She was predeceased by her grandson, Eric Klaneski. Betty is also survived by her sister Mary Harrigan of Manhattan, NY.
Betty earned her bachelors degree from the Teachers College of New Britain in 1957, she began her teaching career at Grove Street School in Thomaston and then took a hiatus to raise her family.
Some years later she returned to teaching at Plymouth Center School. This necessitated that she obtain her Masters Degree for Central Connecticut State University. This was a incredible feat considering that in addition to the coursework, she was teaching and caring for her family.
In her younger years Betty was an active member of St. Thomas Church. Taught CCD classes and served as president of the Catholic Women. In her community Betty was elected to serve on the library board of directors and advocated for establishing a cardiac center in Waterbury. Betty will be fondly remembered by many for her kindness and generosity.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday morning, October 2, at 9:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church in Thomaston. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Friends may arrive at church at 8:30 A.M. to meet with the family.
