Thomaston- Mrs. Emmabelle (Bonner) Innes, 89, of Humiston Circle passed peacefully Monday evening, September 6, in her home surrounded by loving family and friends. She was the wife of the late George Innes, Sr.
Emmabelle was born on December 10, 1920, delivered in the family home by her father Dr. Robert Bonner. Her mother Emmabel (Morton) along with her father raised her in a loving home with her sister Doris (Lawrence), brother Robert Jr., extended family and cherished pets.
Emmabelle graduated from St. Margarets School in Waterbury and Connecticut College in New London. She did her graduate work at Southern Connecticut Teachers College.
A lifelong teacher, Emmabelle began her career teaching kindergarten in Bethlehem, CT. She taught kindergarten, interim and first grade in Thomaston from 1960 - 1985. Generations of Thomastonians have benefitted from her animated teaching style, her warmth and kindness. After retirement Emmabelle taught line dancing until the age of 81. She loved dancing and made dear friends.
Emmabelle was the beloved mother of Robert (Esdale) Bonner and his wife Ann Tait of Loch Lomond, CA; Sally Nicastre and her husband Michael of Durham; Amy Esdale of Gloucester, MA; Robert Innes and his wife Irene of Thomaston and George Innes, Jr and his companion Terri Lapan of Terryville. She is sadly missed by her beloved grandchildren, Eli Bonner and his wife Infan Suwandi, Max and Alec Bonner, Mark Nicastre, Emilee Fitzpatrick, Jenny Esdale, Alan, James and Alexandria Innes, Jennifer Lynch and her husband Steven and two great-grandsons, Declan and Nathan Lynch. She is also survived by her brother in law Michael Lawrence and cherished yorkie, Mopsy and many loving nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, sister, brother and sister-in-law Eleanor (Keller) Bonner.
Arrangements: A memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Thomaston at a date and time to be announced. Burial in New Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterbury will be private. Arrangements are in the care of the Lyons Funeral Home of Thomaston.
