Thomaston - Mrs. Kathleen F. (Callahan) Kalat, 77, died on Monday, February 2, at her home surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Edwin F. Kalat.
Mrs. Kalat was born November 22, 1937 in New Britain, daughter of the late Francis J. and Cecelia (Dickinson) Callahan. Raised in Plainville she attended local schools and was a graduate of Plainville High School. In 1972, with her late husband and family, she moved to Thomaston. She became a very active parishioner of St. Thomas Church, serving on the parish council and as a Eucharistic Minister. She also served the Town of Thomaston on the Housing Authority.
She dedicated her entire life to her faith, family and friends. Her calling of service to others began in her childhood helping raise many cousins, working as a candy striper and caring for those in need. She spent many years working at Waterbury hospital in addition to providing healthcare, meals, communion and support to numerous families in their homes. Her selfless devotion, positive outlook and kind spirit will be missed by many.
She is survived by her children, Michael F. Kalat and his wife Jodi of Thomaston, Susan K. Graham of Thomaston, Patricia A. Fusco of Dubois, Wyoming and Mark J. Kalat and his wife Brigitte of Barre, VT; nine grandchildren, Emily, Molly, Morgan, Aaron, Jacob, Catherine, Elias, Evelyn and Enna Claire.
Arrangements: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, February 7, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church in Thomaston. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in the spring in St. Joseph Cemetery in Plainville.
