Obituary

Thomaston- Mrs. Lelia M. St. John, 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 5, to reunite with her loving husband, William N. St. John. Born on June 26, 1917 in Cleveland, Ohio, she was the daughter of Faunce Dumbleton and Dr. Angeline Lemon, one of the first licensed female physicians in the United States. During her journey through life, she was a graduate of Riverside Junior College in Riverside, California then traveled East to visit with relatives where she met her husband Bill. After they were married she headed back West, while her husband was stationed in the Aleutians during WWII, where she volunteered for the USO. She was a leader for the Girl Scouts in both Buffalo, NY as well as in Thomaston. She loved to travel with her family and drive to various destinations in the Northeast. An evening of watching the lake in Maine was held on her favorites list. Known to many as Lee, she was an active member of St. Peters - Trinity Church Women, a Barnstormer and Liederkranz member wife. Her love for animals, especially dogs, led to a houseful of pets throughout the years. She is survived by one sister, Mary Jane Glenn of Covina, CA; four daughters, Cathryn Becaud of Paris, France, Geraldine Fenwick of Venice, FL, Diana St. John of Thomaston and Deborah Sherwood-St. John of Goldens Bridge, NY; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren one niece and two nephews. Arrangements: Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 11, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Peters - Trinity Church 160 Main St. Thomaston. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Episcopal Church Women at St. Peters - Trinity Church 160 main St. Thomaston, CT 06787 or to the Connecticut Humane Society www.cthumane.org
