Thomaston Mrs. Maria (Witte) Kelley, 89, passed away at her home on Saturday, September 16, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of Joseph M. Kelley. Maria was born May 15, 1934 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Henry and Dorothy (Elliot) Witte. A lifelong resident of Thomaston, she attended local schools and was a graduate of Thomaston High School, class of 1952. She retired from Waterbury Hospital after working as a CNA for 24 years. She will be remembered for her love of family and most important to her, feeding them. She enjoyed reading, camping and watching UConn womans basketball. She is survived by, two sons, John H. Kelley and Mathew J. Kelley, both of Thomaston; three daughters, Alice D. Leonard of Torrington, Margaret K. Witecy of Thomaston and Hedy M. Kelley of Thomaston; 14 grandchildren, Kristin, Michael, Jennifer, Mathew, Joseph, Christopher, Erin, Carl, Frank, Emily, John, Danielle, Jack and Jacob; 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Austin McBride, her granddaughter, Kimberly and her great-grandchild, Jameson. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, September 19, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery.
