Seymour - Martha Rose Macdonald (nee Siebert), 103, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, June 19, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of James Macdonald.
Born in Waterbury on February 15, 1921, and the daughter of the late Edward and Dora Siebert, Martha attended local schools. She graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School and Saint Francis School of Nursing, where she graduated as a registered nurse. While working as a nurse at Waterbury Buckle Company, she met her husband, Jim. They were married in October 1952 and settled in Thomaston, where she would live for the next 60 years. Together, they raised five children.
She became a nurse at St. Thomas School in 1964. While working at St. Thomas, Martha started Think Pink Day, a schoolwide celebration to welcome the first day of spring. She became affectionately known as the Think Pink Lady. Martha was a longtime volunteer with the Salvation Army and an active member of St. Thomas Parish.
A dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Martha enjoyed baking tollhouse cookies, knitting, crafting, playing the piano, and spending time with her loved ones. She took special pride in creating wedding cakes for all her children and many others. She was incredibly close to her two sisters and one younger brother. In her later years, she took great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Martha is survived by her five children, Jim (Cheryl), Martha (Steve), Tom (Corinne), Andrew (Diane), Margaret (Paul), nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one brother (Eddie), and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Dorothy and Mary.
The family would like to give special thanks to Marthas caregiver, Stephanie Emery, for the beautiful love and compassion she has shown her over the last few years.
