Kinston, NC - Mary Lael (Mitchell) Beruk, formerly of Thomaston, beloved wife of Richard Peter Beruk and mother of Ricky, Dana, Cara, Peter, Larisa, Jenny and Jeffrey, peacefully passed away on December 8, 2022. Born on June 21, 1937 in Brooklyn, NY, Mary Lael was the eagerly awaited first child of Joseph and Violet Mitchell. Upon graduating from her cherished Good Shepherd Elementary School, the family moved to Thomaston, CT. It was in Thomaston that Mary Lael met Richard, and thus began a romance that led to a life-long love and marriage.
Mary was a loving mother who delighted in the miracle of each new baby. She was an incredible mom who taught us the value of family, hard work, and finding joy in everyday activities. Even as she raised her family, she was an avid reader of history, historical fiction, and politics. Mom was always patient and supportive as we navigated adulthood, and always ready to listen and support us with her wisdom and practical advice. Her sense of humor was a gift to us all and made us laugh as she usually got the last word. We will miss her each and every day.
She is survived by her children Dana (David), Peter (John), Larisa, and Jeffrey (Nancy) and by her grandchildren Daniel, Andrew, Matthew, Alexandra, Jackson, Olivia, Sophia and Nicholas. She is also survived by her family, Ted (Mena), Valery (Jim) and lifelong friends.
Donations can be made to the charity of ones choice in honor of Mary.
