Thomaston- Mrs. Mary (Martin) Isabelle, 55, died peacefully at St. Marys Hospital in Waterbury on November 26, 2010 after a courageous four year battle with cancer. She was the wife of Peter Isabelle of Thomaston.
Mary was born August 20, 1955 in Thomaston daughter of retired Judge of Probate Rosemary (Lyons) Martin and the late Superior Court Judge Luke F. Martin. She graduated with honors from Notre Dame Academy in Waterbury in 1973 and cum laude from Villanova University in 1977, where she played varsity tennis. She was employed by the State of Connecticut as a certified Court Reporter for 8 years and then operated her own business, Martin Reporting for 18 years.
Mary will be remembered for her great love of family and her devotion to her nieces and nephews. She loved to cook and bake for her friends and family and was passionate about sports. She served on the Thomaston Beautification Committee and the Thomaston Housing Authority. She was committed to several charities supporting the health and welfare of children and families.
Besides her loving husband Peter, Mary is survived by her mother, Rosemary of Thomaston; her five brothers, Timothy Martin and his wife Paula of Philadelphia, A. Luke Martin and his wife Linda of Cheshire, Christopher Martin and his wife Dianne of Thomaston, Sean Martin and his wife Alison of Weston and Patrick Martin and his wife Karen of Lexington, MA. She leaves three sisters, Kathleen Riley and her husband Michael of Thomaston, Maura Martin of Thomaston and Erin Schaefer and her husband Frank of New York City. She also leaves twenty-one nieces and nephews.
Marys family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Joseph Bowen, the staff of the Harold Leever Cancer Center, and the staff of St. Marys Hospital for their dedication to her care, as well as special thanks to Margaret McCabe and Debbie Pomponio and their families for their love and support of Mary and her family.
Arrangements: Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, November 30, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church in Thomaston. Burial will follow in St. Thomas Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 29, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. Memorial contributions may be made in Marys name to the Thomaston Track/Tennis Facility, 158 Main St. Thomaston, CT 06787.
