Thomaston- Mrs. Mary E. (Gallagher) Long, 85, died Wednesday, January 12, at Litchfield Woods Health Care in Torrington. She was the widow of Edward P. Long, Jr. Mrs. Long was born July 31, 1925 in North Walpole, NH daughter of the late John J. and Mary F. (Healy) Gallagher. Mary was raised in North Walpole, NH / Bellows Falls, VT area and was a graduate of Bellows Falls High School class of 1943 and received her degree as a Registered Nurse from the Burbank Hospital School of Nursing in Fitchburg, MA class of 1946. She moved to Connecticut and settled in Thomaston in 1955. She had been employed as a geriatric nurse in Waterbury until her retirement in 1991. A long time communicant of St. Thomas Church in Thomaston, Mary was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and will be remembered as a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by one son, John E. Long; five daughters, Kathleen Long Tobin, Patricia Long Dodge, Janet Long West, Suzanne Long Niles and Margaret Long Plekan; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, January 18, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church. Burial will be Wednesday in St. Peters Cemetery, Drewsville, NH. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in the care of the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston.
