Thomaston- Mrs. Rita Elise (Johnson) Brown, 63, died Saturday, March 10, at the Waterbury Hospital. She was the wife of John S. Brown. Mrs. Brown was born July 22, 1948 in Waterbury daughter of the late John R. and Charlotte (Guertin) Johnson. She retired from the Thomaston Public Library. She had been a member of the Beacon Grange in Northfield and was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary. She will be remembered for her volunteerism, notably, selling Poppies every year before Memorial Day to benefit veterans. You would see her around Thomaston almost any day in one of her many silly hats. In addition to her husband she is survived by her sisters, Denise Russett and her husband Bob Russett, Sr of Terryville and Susan Ventresca and her husband Harry Grant of Port St. Lucie, FL and Southington; her brothers, Robert Johnson and his wife Janice of Port St. Lucie, FL, Northfield and Goshen, Roger Johnson and his wife Connie of Folsom, CA and Ronald Johnson and his wife Kathy of Litchfield; two uncles and one aunt and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins. Arrangements: A private memorial service will be held in late spring. Arrangements are in the care of the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston.
