Obituary

Northfield- Mrs. Shirley Mae (Morse) Austin, 94, passed away on Monday, July 20, at Litchfield Woods in Torrington. She was the widow of Russell E. Austin, Sr. Mrs. Austin was born January 6, 1921 in Waterbury, daughter of the late William Vincent and Sadie Danbury (Hodapp) Morse. She lived and worked in Waterbury for many years where she graduated from Wilby High School and worked at the American Brass Company as a secretary. After marrying the love of her life for almost 50 years she moved to Litchfield where she was employed by the Morosani family for 50 years. She started as a housekeeper and ended as a caregiver to both Mr. and Mrs. Morosani. She was a devoted wife and mother to her four children and loved taking care of people, it was her passion. She also loved photography and scrapbooking, but her greatest love of all was music and dancing. She is survived by her four children, daughter, Janet Nicholson and her husband Darryl, Sr. of Northfield, son, Russell E. Austin, Jr. and his wife Linda of Torrington, daughter, Holly Salvietti and her husband Arthur, Jr. of Northfield and son, William Austin and his wife Disa of Northfield; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements: Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 23, from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St., Thomaston. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Northfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Northfield Volunteer Fire Company 12 Knife Shop Rd. Northfield, CT 06778 or to the Alzheimers Association of CT Chapter 2075 Silas Deane Highway Suite 100 Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
