Obituary

Mr. Peter Butkevich, 97, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 3, 2021. He passed peacefully at the home he shared with his daughter, Karen, and her family. He was surrounded by loved ones. He was the husband of the late Lillian (Gustafson) Butkevich. Peter was born August 24, 1924, in Oakville, to John & Anna Butkevich. Peter was a decorated WWII veteran serving in the U.S Armed Forces as a staff sergeant from 1943-1945 in the 15th AAF squadron. He flew 35 missions over Italy and Germany as a ball-turret gunner on a B-24 Liberator bomber. Returning home, he got married and became a resident of Thomaston. He then started his own company, Petes Concrete Foundations, a foundation/home building business. He continued in that field until retirement. He was a master carpenter, an avid fisherman, and a keen bird watcher. He generously and tirelessly provided for his family throughout his life. He is survived by his two sons, John Butkevich (Mary) of Thomaston, and Richard Butkevich (Paula) of Pomfret; and his three daughters, Margrit Fusco (Joseph) of Easley, SC, Karen Johnson (Joseph) of Plymouth, and Karol Nicoletti (Rick) of Burlington; his two sisters, Frances Allegrini and Helen Daniels; seventeen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Besides Lillian, his wife of 65 years, he was predeceased by his daughter, Susan Butkevich, his brother Mike Butkevich and his sisters, Olga Zubik and Mary Zubic. Funeral services will be held graveside at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 9, at Hillside Cemetery, Thomaston. Services Hillside Cemetery Center St. Thomaston, CT 06787
