Obituary

Northfield Mr. Raymond Petke, 87, passed away on Thursday, November 2, at his daughters home in Cromwell. He was the husband of the late Julia (DaMotta) Petke. Raymond was born July 19, 1936, in Monroe, New York, son of the late Raymond A. and Dorothy (Sherwin) Petke. Raised in Thomaston he attended local schools and was a graduate of Thomaston High School. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers for 60 years. He worked for Tilcon Tomasso for 35 years before retiring and has been retired for 25 years. He enjoyed traveling the United States in his camper with his late wife and their dogs. He would talk with everyone, family and friends or strangers in a restaurant. He will be remembered as an enthusiastic storyteller, and he always had a story about people or places to which you could relate. He is survived by two sons, Glenn Petke of NC and Raymond Petke of NH; four daughters, Sue Ellen Angell of Torrington, Dorothy Johnson of NV, Nicki Remeika of Cromwell and Kristi Rollins of Torrington; one brother, David Petke of MD; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by his son, James Petke and two sisters, Dorothy Fox and Catherine Danaher. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 7, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High Street Thomaston. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at the Hillside Cemetery in Thomaston.
