Lovingly known as "Poppy" to his 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren
Thomaston – Richard J. Siemiatkoski, 91, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 2025. Married for 65 years to the love of his life, Gail (Sanford) Siemiatkoski, whom he met on his bakery delivery route. It was love at first sight and the beginning of a partnership that would last a lifetime.
Born in Terryville on October 7, 1933, Richard was the only child of the late Richard M. and Isabel "Bernice" (Racki) Siemiatkoski. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a helicopter crew chief. Together with his wife, Gail, Richard carried on a cherished family legacy—running Richie's Terryville Bakery, which had risen with the family for generations. There, they baked not only bread but a lifetime of memories, with their children by their side.
In addition to his beloved wife, Gail, Richard leaves behind his treasured children: Marc Siemiatkoski and his partner Holly; Linda DiMarzio and her late husband, Paul; Michael Siemiatkoski; Holly Gurry and her husband, Rob; Robin Whitright and her husband, Joe; and Richard Siemiatkoski and his wife, Jenny. He also leaves his granddaughter, Marissa Siemiatkoski, whom he and Gail lovingly raised as their own.
He was blessed with 18 grandchildren: Jennifer, David, Kayley, Bethany, Amanda, Christina, Sarah, Jason, William, Jillian, Elizabeth, Jenny, Joey, Jack, Mika, Maili, and Marcus; and 5 great-grandchildren: Alexandra, Matthew, Tyler, Jaxon, and Cameron. Richard also leaves cherished extended family and dear friends.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 21, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street, Thomaston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Church, Thomaston. Burial will follow in West Cemetery, Plymouth.
