Mr. RobertFraser Bailey
THOMASTON Robert F. Bailey., 64, of Elm St., died Friday August 15, 2008, after sustaining injuries in a motor vehicle accident, along side of him was his close friend Gerald Williams Sr.
Robert was born June 28, 1944 in Waterbury, son of the late William H. Bailey Jr. and Janet (Fraser). He worked for many years as a machinist at Barlow Metal Stamping in Bristol. He was a Viet Nam Veteran in which he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Halsey from 1962 to 1965 in San Diego, California then transferred to the Reserve until 1968. Robert received the Armed Forces Expeditonary Medal and The First Good Conduct Medal for his service. He was very active in the American Legion Post 22, and the V.F.W., he showed great pride when reflecting on his service and being aboard the USS Halsey. Robert was one for taking photographs, speaking his mind, a man of great talent and had many interest. He was inquisitive about any piece of History and loved to find a good history show. Robert was a great listener and will be sadly missed by his family and extended family. Robert had suffered a tremendous loss when his son, Robert Fraser Bailey Jr. had drowned at the age of seven.
Robert is survived by a brother William H. Bailey III of Edgartown, MA, a sister Lucinda Bailey Parish of Pearl River, Louisiana and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements: A memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 21, at the American Legion Post 22, Thomaston, at 6:00 P.M. Lyons Funeral Home, Thomaston, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
