Thomaston- Mr. Robert D. DeFiore, 91, died Tuesday evening, April 28, at Westfield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Meriden. He was the husband of Helen (Ciriello) DeFiore.
Mr. DeFiore was born April 14, 1918 in Waterbury son of the late Carmine and Maria (DiNunzio) DeFiore. Robert was a graduate of Thomaston High School class of 1936 and was the quarterback of the football team. During WWII he had worked at Scovill Manufacturing in Waterbury, and later worked as a tool and die maker for Hartley Tool and Die and retired from Connecticut Carbide. A lifelong love of music, especially opera, lead Robert to belong to many choirs and music clubs, including the H.S. Liederkranz Singing Society for over sixty years, the Waterbury Chorale for twelve years, the Spanish Choir of St. Josephs Church in Bristol, he was a communicant and member of the Choir of St. Thomas Church and he played the violin.
In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Roberta H. DeFiore of Meriden; one brother, Armand V. DeFiore of Thomaston and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank DeFiore.
Arrangements: A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, May 2 at 12 Noon at St. Thomas Church, Thomaston. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Calling hours are Friday, May 1 from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston.
