Thomaston - Robert A. Gardner Jr., 67, of Pine Hill Rd., passed away on Thursday, October 1, 2009, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of Kay (Schroth) Gardner.
Robert was born in Altoona, PA on July 4, 1942, son of the late Robert A. and Syrilda (Litzenger) Gardner Sr. He attended schools and graduated in Pennsylvania before settling in Thomaston years ago. He started his days of work at a Textile Mill in PA, moved to Connecticut, and worked at Al Jim Wholesale in Waterbury then at Pratt and Whitney as a machine tool maker for over thirty years before retiring. Robert was a member of St. Thomas Church of Thomaston, found great enjoyment playing the guitar and singing in a Folk Group. He was acclimated with many instruments such as the keyboard and harmonica. Robert was one who liked the outdoors and camping.
Besides his wife Kay, he leaves a son Michael F. Gardner of Thomaston, a brother, James L. Gardner of PA, two sisters, Catherine Kent of PA, Patricia Shirock of PA, a sister-in-law, Gail L. (Schroth) Gardner of PA, two aunts, Dototh Cupples of PA, Mary Litzenger of PA, seven nephews, two nieces, three great nieces and one great nephew . Bob was predeceased by a son Robert A. Gardner III and a brother Paul J. Gardner.
Arrangements: Calling hours will be held at Lyons Funeral Home. Tuesdayfrom 5:00 P.M. to8:00 P.M. A funeral Mass will be Wednesday directly at St. Thomas Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Thomaston.
