Obituary

Thomaston- Mr. Sam Martin, 93, died Saturday evening, May 19, at Torrington Health and Rehabilitation. Mr. Martin was born May 10, 1919 in Pennsylvania, son of the late Michael and Catherine Martin. Sam was raised in Bridgeport and was a graduate of Bridgeport Central High School and was involved in CCC Camps. He had served honorably in the United States Army and the United States Navy. Following World War II and his discharge from service he spent many years as a sailor traveling the world, including Antarctica. He was an artist and a writer, he wrote for the Grapevine and in later years was the editor of the Green Manor newsletter. He is survived by many nieces and nephews including niece Natalie Duncan and her husband Charles and their children Erika, Catherine and Andrew of Thomaston and nephew Daniel Martin and his wife Kathy and their children Caitlin and Lindsay of Shelton and his sister-in-law, Lois Martin of Plymouth. He was predeceased by his daughter Marya Martin; four brothers, Fred, William, Daniel and Steve and two sisters, Helen and Marya. Arrangements: All funeral services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
