Thomaston – Dorothea I. Johnston, 93, of Thomaston, passed away on March 19, 2020 at Hartford Hospital.

Dorothy led a long and productive life. She was educated in many venues from a one room school house in Reynolds Bridge through the Thomaston School System, to Hartford Hospital School of Nursing. She attended College in New Britain, New Haven, and New York. Dorothy held many clinical and management positions in a field that she loved Nursing and strived to be a good role model and advocate for women.

Dorothy was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church, later know as St. Peters Trinity where she became a member of the of the junior choir for many years during Reverend Leonard Smith’s tenure. Dorothy was an active member at the Alter guild, She taught Sunday School, participated with various work groups, prepared church suppers, helped with the local fairs and became a founding member of a couple’s work group, “The Church Mice”. Her years of married life with Husband Ray were filled with family, activity and much love. Together with Ray and family members they spent years swimming, skiing, sightseeing, learning history and creating memories all over the USA, Canada, South America, Europe, Britain, Africa and China.

When Ray passed (2002) all too soon, Dorothy was blessed with the love, help, support and encouragement of her family. Dorothy is predeceased by her husband Raymond H Johnston, her parents Hans and Helene Elsner and several aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her sons Dean Johnston and his wife Cyndi, Warren Johnston and his wife Geri; daughter’s Donna Johnston and her husband Marc Leclerc and Dorene Martin and her husband Chip. She is also survived by grandchildren Dean (DJ) Johnston and his wife Krystin, David Johnston and his wife Angela, Brian Hinckley, Jennifer Hinckley, Michelle Hinkley, Katherine Martin, Alexandra Martin; and great grandchildren, Cory Johnston and Eric Johnston. Dorothy now leaves them to carry on the Raymond H. Johnston’s family traditions.
Funeral services for Dorothy will be held at a late date.
