On Monday, November 8, 2021, the world lost a wonderful man; husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. George Frederick Newsome, lifelong Thomaston resident, passed away at home at the age of 90 years.
George was born on September 28, 1931, son of the late Frederick and Doris Newsome.
George eloped with his late wife Shirley in Elkton, Maryland on February 1, 1951. Together they had four children and 68 happy years.
George enjoyed spending time with his wife any way he could, from going to tag sales to going on ice cream dates. Forever not just husband and wife, but also ‘boyfriend’ and ‘girlfriend.’ For them, the relationship was as if it was always in the honeymoon stage.
In his younger years, George enjoyed many lively evenings playing pinochle with friends and having coffee with family. George enjoyed the outdoors, tinkering, and inventing, but most important to him was his wife and family. He found tremendous joy in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
George will be missed for countless reasons, but his kindness, sense of humor, and his warm heart will be the things that his family will keep with them forever.
George is survived by his sons George Jr. and his wife Christine; Richard; Robert Sr. and his wife Louise; and John, all of Thomaston. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, George III and his wife Kristen; Maryann, Robert Jr. and his wife Chrissy; Sarah; Philip and his wife Kelly; Karen; and Donna; 17 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
George was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Doris, and his sister Lois Ryan.
A very special thanks to everyone who helped care for George in his final days. We could not have gotten through these last months without you. Thank you for being a part of our family.
