Thomaston – Mrs. Grace (Nelson) Dayton, 89, passed away on Monday, January 4, at Valerie Manor in Torrington. She was the widow of William “Red” Dayton.
Grace was born July 1, 1931 in Thomaston, daughter of the late Joel and Signe (Persson) Nelson. Grace graduated from Thomaston High School in 1949. She was a lifelong, active member of The Covenant Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher for fifty years teaching three and four year olds. She enjoyed her Swedish heritage and visited Sweden several times getting to know many relatives. She especially loved family vacations in Maine and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children William and his wife Michelle, Brian and his wife Tammy, and Sandra Dunn and her husband Jeff along with her beloved grandchildren, William Kelsey and Jenna Dayton, Alissa Nageotte and her husband Jeff, Brianna Boston and her husband Nick, Alex, Curtis, and Connor Dunn and great granddaughter Sienna Grace Nageotte, her brother Edmund Nelson and his wife Alice, her sister-in-law Becky Nelson and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sister Elsie Eckert and brother Arthur Nelson.
A memorial service will be held at the Covenant Church of Thomaston on a date and time to be announced. Burial will be private.
