Jacqueline Chapman

Morris – Jacqueline (Lavigne) Chapman, 92, passed away peacefully in her Morris, CT home on the morning of October 23rd.

Born in Manchester, NH in April of 1926, Jackie was the daughter of William Lavigne and Antoinette (Hebert) Lavigne. She is predeceased by her husband, Russell Chapman Jr., and sons Russell Chapman III and David Chapman.

She leaves behind a daughter, Gail Berry and husband Rick of NSW Australia; and son Stuart Chapman and his wife Lynn of Litchfield. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Jackie was a graduate of L’Ecole St. Antoine and the New Hampshire School of Accounting and Finance. She married Russell Chapman in June of 1948 and later settled in Thomaston where she would work alongside Russell for nearly four decades as bookkeeper for Thomaston Cabinet and Millwork, later to become Chapman Lumber.

Jackie was an excellent chef and an avid collector of cook books and recipes. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her husband on their family farm. She was also a talented artist, having painted hundreds of water colors and oil paintings depicting the architecture and landscapes of her native New England.

Jackie did not want public calling hours, rather requesting an intimate memorial at the convenience of family members. In lieu of flowers, she would like donations made in her honor to either the Thomaston or Morris Volunteer Fire Departments.
