Tribute

Thomaston - Janet M. (MacLean) Hoyt, 94, of Thomaston, passed away peacefully on Friday January 24, 2020. She was the widow of Bernard C. Hoyt. Janet was born on December 14, 1925, in Waterbury, daughter of the late William and Charlotte MacLean.

Raised in Oakville Janet attended local schools and graduated from Wilby High School class of 1942. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at various companies before leaving to raise her three sons. She went back to work later at Tyler Automatics in Thomaston until her retirement in 1993.  Janet was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. In her earlier years, Janet was an avid square dancer, enjoyed camping with her family and involved in scouting. Later she enjoyed traveling, vacationing in Stowe, VT and watching Yankee and UCONN women’s basketball games. Janet was a long time member of the First Congregational Church.  For many years, Janet gave of her time and energies to the church, spending much time volunteering alongside her special friends there. Janet’s greatest love was her family. She cherished time spent with family, especially her 4 grandchildren. She forged a deep and beautiful bond with each of them, and rejoiced in watching their growth and accomplishments.

There was not a person Janet met that did not become a friend.  Her enthusiasm for life, and ability to make immediate friends with everyone she met was a gift to be cherished.  

She leaves two sons, James and his wife Kathleen of Hamden, David and his wife Linda of Waltham, MA. Four grandchildren, Shane and Logan Hoyt of Hamden, Maximus and Violet Hoyt of Waltham, MA. She was predeceased by her son William; brothers William, Joseph and Jack MacLean and a sister Irene Pierson.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 28 at the First Congregational Church in Thomaston. Calling hours will be on Monday, January 27, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street in Thomaston. Burial will be in the spring in the Hillside Cemetery in the spring.
