Mr John E. Calkins

Litchfield – Mr. John E. Calkins, 78, died on Wednesday, April 18, at the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington. He was the husband of Eileen (Cronkhite) Calkins.

John was born December 25, 1939 in Willsboro, New York, son of the late Gilbert and Doris (Purkett) Calkins. Raised in New York he had attended local schools and then went on to serve honorably in the United States Navy on the Navy Destroyer USS Witek. John had worked as a construction manager for many years.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, John Calkins of Torrington and Dan Ruquist and his wife Jennifer of Litchfield; two daughters, Kimberly Aszklar and her husband David of Meriden and Kristen Arnold and her husband Thomas of Ogunquit, ME; one brother, Sonny Calkins of CA; one sister, Pat Robinson of ME; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service and full military honors will be held in the chapel at the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery Bow Lane Middletown on Monday morning, April 23, at 9:00 A.M. Inurnment will follow.
