Lucille was born on December 23,1930, in Auburn, Maine, daughter of the late Fernand and Irene Michaud Fournier.  She graduated from New Britain High School, where she met and married her husband, Alan D. Miller.  While raising a growing family, she earned a BS in Education from New Britain Teachers College, a Master of Science Degree from Central Connecticut State College, and a sixth-year professional diploma of advanced studies in reading from Southern Connecticut State College. She taught elementary school and remedial reading for thirty-four years in the Thomaston Public Schools.

Lucille maintained an active lifestyle serving on the Thomaston Planning and Zoning commission, and volunteering at the Seth Thomas House, she also served as a docent at the Mattatuck Museum of Waterbury, organized and led the Writer’s Society in Thomaston, and enjoyed guiding book discussions at the Thomaston Library.

Sharing her husband’s love for adventure and trying new things they both fell in love with Scottish Country dancing. Never one for half measures, she became a certified teacher in Litchfield, Bethany and Windsor and served as secretary of the Connecticut branch of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society. She was equally interested in the French-Canadian side of the family, researching and self-publishing books on the Fournier and Michaud families, as well as joining multiple genealogical organizations, including the French-Canadian Genealogical Society of Connecticut and the Alliance Francaise of Northwestern Connecticut.

Throughout her life, Lucille was an inveterate hiker, walking at least thirty minutes on most days as well as much longer treks along the Appalachian Trail, from Mt Katahdin, in Maine to Amacalola Falls, in Georgia. She was awarded the Appalachian Mountain Club’s 4000 Footers Badge in 1991.
