Thomaston – Mrs. Mamie W. (Cheek) Watley, 87, of Thomaston, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at her home surrounded by family. She was the widow of Mr. William Watley.
Mamie was born in Wauchula, FL., on January 25, 1930, raised by her late mother, Mary Louise (Evors) Simpson, and her step father Joseph N. Simpson. She moved to Thomaston in 1944 and met her late husband, William in 1946. Mamie was a QA Inspector at Metallon Inc. in Thomaston and retired at the age of 83 after 40 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed Jeeping, deep sea fishing, crocheting, vacationing to Canada, Rhode Island, DC, and camping at White Pines, and was in a bowling league for over 20 years. Mamie will always be remembered for putting others first and helping people in need.
Mamie is survived by her children, Robert W. Watley, Sr. and his wife Linda of Goshen, Joseph J. Watley, and Nancy L. Griswold and her husband Carl, both of Thomaston; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and her three pugs, Bailey, Crissy, and Tristan.
She was predeceased by her son, Daniel P. Watley.
A graveside service will be held on May 6, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Hillside Cemetery in Thomaston. There are no calling hours.
