Marcia R. Curtiss

October 14, 1940 ~ April 12, 2023 (age 82) 82 Years Old

Tribute

Ms. Marcia Ruth Curtiss, 82, of Thomaston, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Hartford Hospital while undergoing surgery to treat a heart condition.

The daughter of Percy and Agnes White, Marcia was born on October 14, 1940, and lived a vibrant life full of friends, family, and adventure. A lifelong resident of Thomaston, Marcia went to work for Timex after graduating from Thomaston High School. A lover of flowers, Marcia worked later for White Flower Farm, and continuously at home on her own flower beds. She retained a lifelong interest in Nature’s wonders, large and small. She also volunteered at the Thomaston Opera House, where she met the love of her life, James T. Dunn, also of Thomaston. One of the gifts for those who spent time with Marcia and James was the knowledge that soulmates can and do exist. Ever interested, Marcia was a force of positivity in the lives of her loved ones, who will miss the decades of merry get-togethers at her home; her presence on countless special occasions; her enjoyment of boardgames, cards, and dominoes; the outings for pizza and ice cream; the lakeside picnics; and the vacations in Florida.

Marcia was remarkable, not only for the planetary scale of her extended family, but also for her tendency to regard everyone in her orbit as family. To live as one of Marcia’s friends or relatives was to encounter the incapacity of labels: “How do you know Marcia?” could never be answered sufficiently with “I was her next door neighbor” or “I am her first cousin once removed.” For many, one would inevitably have to add, “She was like a mother/grandmother/sister to me.” Therefore, it is inaccurate to say that Marcia had no children or grandchildren or siblings of her own.

Marcia’s passing leaves a void in the lives of everyone she loved, including Michael Greene, George Innes and Terri LaPan, Robert and Irene Innes, Lois Innes, Jennifer Lynch, and Alexandrea, Allan, and James Innes; James T. Dunn’s children, James Dunn, Jeffrey Dunn, Nancy Dunn, Tricia Dunn, Sandra Vollaro, Susan White; James T. Dunn’s grandchildren, Alex, Curtis, and Connor Dunn, James M. Dunn, Aubrae and Raelin O’Porto, Chloe and Olivia Vollaro, David White and Heather Wilson, and Melissa White; and many friends and acquaintances.

Marcia will be remembered for the limitlessness of her love. Her door and her heart were always open.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 20 at 12:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. A calling hour will start at 11:00 A.M. Committal prayers will follow at the Hillside Cemetery. To send notes of sympathy and comfort please visit Marcia’s tribute page at www.lyonsfuneralhome.com
