MaryEllen (Rush) Brody
July 17, 1944 ~ December 13, 2023 (age 79) 79 Years Old
THOMASTON-MaryEllen (Rush) Brody ,79, of Thomaston, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, December 13th, surrounded by her loving children. She was the widow of Franklin E. Brody.
MaryEllen was born July 17,1944 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Thomas and Ernestine (Steinert) Rush.
MaryEllen is survived by her children Bridget Brody of Thomaston, Kimberly O’Regan and her husband Richard of Burlington, her son Christopher and his wife Patricia of Thomaston, and Kerry Barber and her husband Thomas of Austin, Texas.
After graduating from Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury in 1962, MaryEllen attended and graduated from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Hartford as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked at both St. Francis Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital.
MaryEllen proudly held the title of “Nanny” by her 11 grandchildren: Caitlin (Collins) Ouellette and Timothy Collins; Kate, Jack, Mary and Connor Brody; Lauren, Morgan and Patrick O’Regan and Abigail and Isabella Barber, and her 2 great-grandchildren: Amelia and Caleb Ouellette. Nanny loved her grandchildren beyond measure and had unique bonds with each of them. They were the light of her life.
Besides her children and grandchildren, MaryEllen is survived by her Mother-in-Law Ann Rothenberg of Florida as well as her siblings: Maureen Mulvehill and her husband James, Peter Rush and his wife Nancy, Thomas Rush and his wife Christine and Larry Rush and his wife Judy. MaryEllen will also be missed by a large extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
MaryEllen’s greatest joy was caring for others whether it was a care package of cookies, cooking an elaborate family dinner or helping an aging neighbor or friend. No one left her house hungry or without a container or two of food. MaryEllen is best known for the phrases: “Did you eat yet?”, “Are you hungry?”, and “Have a little something.” She loved family and tradition and was at her happiest in the chaos of holiday gatherings.
MaryEllen will be remembered for her smile, her laugh, her gentle kindness and for the unconditional love she had for her family and friends.
The family would like to thank the dedicated caregivers who provided her comfort in her home for many years. The family would also like to thank the amazing caregivers of Complete Care at Glendale and AccentCare. We are grateful for the peace and comfort they provided our mother.
