Thomaston – Mrs. Olive J. (Smalley) Duffy, 90, passed away on Thursday evening, January 10, at the Waterbury Hospital. She was the widow of Lester C. Duffy, Sr.
Olive was born June 24, 1928 in Bantam, daughter of the late George and Caroline (Katon) Smalley. She will be remembered for her love of gardening and bingo; she was involved for many years in the bingo at St. Thomas Church. Loved by the neighborhood children she was known as “Mom D” by many of them.
She is survived by three sons, Terry Duffy and his wife Peg of Thomaston, Lester C. Duffy, Jr and his wife Tina of Morris and Kurt A. Duffy and his wife Rhonda of Thomaston; one daughter, Joan Lumbard Knox and her husband Dan of Thomaston; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Her son, Alan L. Duffy and her eight siblings predeceased her.
The family would like to thank the following for the loving care given to Olive, Wendy McLellan, Ruth Solla, Kim Bartman, Danielle Frazen and VNA Health at Home.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 17 at 6:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. until time of service. Burial will be held in the spring.
In lieu of flower’s memorial contributions may be made in Olive’s name to the Thomaston Volunteer Ambulance Corps 237 South Main St. Thomaston, CT 06787.
