Plymouth - Ralph J. Cappella, 91, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Jan. 18, 2023. Ralph was born January 25, 1931, in Waterbury, the son of the late Ralph and Sarah (Marchiani) Cappella. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Theresa (Ayotte) Cappella.
After graduating from Wilby High School and being discharged from the Navy, Ralph worked at WHYCO Chromium for 45 years as a salesman. He had served honorably in the United States Navy during the Korean War. As a resident of Thomaston Ralph coached and was president of Thomaston Little League for many years. He also coached CYO basketball for St. Thomas Church in Thomaston and was an avid bowler at Thomaston Lanes
During his retirement years, Ralph enjoyed spending time in Old Saybrook, with his family and friends. He enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the Red Sox. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his 6 grandchildren
In addition to his wife, Theresa, Ralph is survived by his three children, Raymond Cappella (Leslie), Michele Brittingham (James), Melissa Young (Marc), six grandchildren, Jillian Cappella, Alyssa Cappella, Ava Cappella, Louis Cappella, Alexandra Brittingham, Derek Young and a brother-in-law, Raymond Ayotte (Charlene) as well several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Joseph, John, and Louis and his sister Bridgie Donato.
A Calling hour will take place at Lyons Funeral Home, 46 High Street, Thomaston on Friday, January 20, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 A.M. at St. Thomas Church (St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish), 1 East Main St. Thomaston. Entombment with full military honors will follow in Queen of Peace Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery.
