Thomaston – Mr. Richard S. Thompson, Sr, 82, passed away on Sunday, February 25, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the husband of June Gladys (Finkle) Thompson.
Richard was born September 26, 1935 in Waterbury, son of the late Norman H. and Rachael (Stem) Thompson. A lifelong resident of Thomaston, he had been employed by the Thomaston Highway Department for over thirty five years, many of which he served as foreman. He was an avid golfer and bowler and was a member of the George S. memorial Bowling League for over fifty years and had served as league treasurer. He will be remembered for his love of traveling, most especially traveling to Florida for the winter with his wife.
In addition to his wife of sixty five years he is survived by two sons, Bruce O. Thompson of Thomaston and Michael P. Thompson of Wells River, VT; two daughters, Caroline R. Brague and her husband William of Thomaston and Laura J. Moses and her husband Earl Whitcomb of Milford, DE; two brothers, Harold Thompson of Colchester and Norman Thompson of TX; his daughter-in-law, Lori Thompson of Southington; seventeen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sons, Richard S. Thompson, Jr and Terri L. Thompson; one daughter, Vanessa L. Thompson; his sister, Lois A. Ryan and his daughter-in-law, Barbara Thompson.
Calling hours are Friday, March 2, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Lyons Funeral Home 46 High St. Thomaston. Funeral services will be held on Saturday morning at 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring in the Northfield Cemetery.
